Owens- Illinois was a fixture in Huntington, employing thousands of workers, often many generations of the same family, for almost 70 years (1929-1993). Halftone printed figures and simplified 1980s office decor compose altered images of parties from the last ten years of the factory’s operation, before its closure in 1993 and the accompanying mass layoffs. Streamers and frosting patterns run alongside implicit questions about gender, employee agency within management control of labor, and the ways that voices interact and collaborate in the interpretation of archival material. It is inspired by Cleo Woefle-Erskine’s writing on a trans theory of watershed embodiment that embraces “evolving expressions and categories of being.” Manifest Destiny’s fantasy of control is seen in the Army Corps of Engineers’ damming and dredging activities, here represented by regulated rectangular pools. The design is ultimately thinking toward a direction of "Manifest Reversal," with swamp dodder spreading out of the area of the pools back to its original flood plain. The mussels represented include Sheepnose, Pimpleback, Black Sandshell, White Heelsplitter, Pocketbook, Threeridge, and Fragile Papershell, and the extinct or extirpated Rough Pigtoe, Scaleshell, Spectaclecase, Snuffbox, and Tubercled Blossom. Letterpress (linoleum and pressure printing) and screenprint on Shikoku paper with hand-made milkweed paper covers. Bound in a modified long-stitch format with screenprinted Plike spine.&nbsp; Edition of 50. Washington Place, along what is now Hal Greer Blvd. was one of these subdivisions; it was built for Black Huntingtonians by John Henry Cammack, a confederate general who returned to Huntington and became involved in real estate. According to historian Cicero M. Fain III, Washington Place was created to keep Black Huntingtonians out of the areas of town further to the south where more white people lived.
